About Giggles Drama School

Mary Ellen Conlon is the Founder and Artistic Director of Giggles Drama School in County Mayo. Giggles Drama School is for young people to explore drama and the theatre in a fun, safe and creative environment. Before setting up the stage school, Mary Ellen acted in many One Act festivals, produced and designed productions, which went on tour around Ireland, Wales and London. Currently Mary Ellen is writing a range of chrildrens books (Giggle books), to encourage chrildren to read out loud, to use facial and vocal expression, which will enhance the childs confidence and ability in reading.

Aims
I teach drama to:
• Develop social skills, promote questioning, to co-operate and communicate with others.
• Develop student self confidence in a safe, creative and supportive learning environment.
• Develop respect for one another by listing to all ideas.
• Develop the students’ capacity and skill to express ideas and feelings through a range of drama methods in both individual exercises and group exercises.
• Develop the ability to work as a member in a group, focusing on skills of leadership, discussion, and negotiating ideas.
• Develop skills in movement and vocal work through practical drama exercises.
• Develop skills in rehearsing and presenting their work to others by
   classroom showcases and performances on stage.
                                 • Develop skills in script reading and
                                     writing through structured lesson plans.
                                 • Develop skills in improvisation 
                                    through practical individual and
                                    group exercises.
